a lesson you probably already know

Hey guys! Hope you all had a great weekend! Me and the Mr did a lot of site seeing and exploring over the weekend and fell in love with this part of the country even more! I will post some fun pics later today!!!

But this morning I have just a little lesson on layering. Since living in this weather I've really had to be creative in mixing fabrics, layering up, and dressing warm. Doing this without looking like a cotton-ball, is no easy task! So I always try to first put on a simple tee or chammy that will act as a protection layer. I like something a little longer than all the rest of my pieces, so that way it shows on the bottom if I have my coat buttoned up.

Next I will find a long sleeve shirt, sweater, or light jacket that is a little longer than the first layer. This should be something that is the most bold piece, the layer with the biggest print or funnest color!

Lastly will be your main jacket. I would grab something with a lot of style, not too heavy looking, and that is solid in color. That way it doesn't clash with any of your other pieces.

The other bit of advice would be to lay every thing out first, try different pieces, and try different fabrics and prints with each other. You may be surprised at how some fabrics can look amazing next to others.

Good luck!

I love reading about all your adventures living in Portland. My daughter moved there in August from Mesa to attend college at Lewis and Clark. I think you would really enjoy reading about all the craft places she has found so far and all the great place she has eaten. She is really crafty and reminds me of a younger version of you. :) Check out her blog at:
